Major League Soccer had another full week of games and Columbus finally got their first win, Chivas USA won again, and FC Dallas continues to be the worst team in the league. There were a few surprises as the New York Red Bulls scored 4 goals, and the Galaxy were able to get 2 draws on the road. Here’s the latest Major League Soccer rankings through May 11, 2009.
- Chivas USA – Every week this team continues to get wins and has only conceded 3 goals in 9 games. They are now 8 points ahead of 2nd place Seattle in the Western Conference.
- Seattle Sounders FC – A disappointing draw to the Galaxy but remain one of the top teams. Their form has dropped since a strong start and will need to get consistent performances from Fredy Montero.
- DC United – Two draws and DC remains on top in the Eastern Conference. Nothing spectacular from this team yet but Moreno’s recent form is reason to be optimistic.
- Toronto FC – A disappointing draw at DC but Toronto remains in 2nd in the Eastern Conference. If they can continue their good form at BMO Field, this team can be very dangerous in the playoffs.
- Chicago Fire – Another lead for the Fire at home, and another draw as they can’t hold the lead, is this a broken record?
- Colorado Rapids – A bye week for Colorado.
- Kansas City Wizards – KC was able to rebound to get a draw against DC but lost to Columbus on the weekend. The team has been inconsistent on the road and is currently in 4th in the Eastern Conference standings.
- Houston Dynamo – After a slow star, the Dynamo are starting to heat up and could challenge Chivas for the top spot by July or August.
- New England Revolution – Shalrie Joseph scored a second half goal to earn a draw at Chicago as this team continues to stay in contention in the crowded Eastern Conference standings.
- Real Salt Lake – RSL played a tough game at Chivas but have yet to score an away goal.
- Los Angeles Galaxy – At least the Galaxy are well within reach of a playoff spot, but does anyone really think they will?
- New York Red Bulls – The Red Bulls finally got some offense going as they dominated San Jose 4-1. If this team can play with the intensity and fire that they did in the first half, they’d be much higher in the standings.
- Columbus Crew – Columbus finally won their first game of the season and the return of Frankie Hejduk could spark a run for this team.
- San Jose Earthquakes – A team that has talent and consistently underachieves. On the road they are winless (0-3-0) and have only scored one goal.
- FC Dallas – If this team is able to make the playoffs it would be very surprising. Kenny Cooper seems to be feeling the pressure of carrying the offense and hasn’t been in great form. It doesn’t help that Dallas has had very low attendance and nothing seems to be going right for the franchise this season.
