Houston Dynamon – New York Red Bulls – 1-1

DC United – Chivas USA – 2-2
Columbus Crew – Los Angeles Galaxy – 1-1
Here’s the latest Major League Soccer Power Rankings through May 18, 2009.
- Chivas USA – Is there any doubt that this team is still on top? They are 8 points above every other team and have been consistent every week. A draw against DC United snapped their perfect home record but they still have a +9 goal difference. The only reason for concern is they were unable to hold a 2-0 lead at home.
- Chicago Fire – A nice win at BMO Field in Toronto has the Fire in the Eastern Conference lead. Blanco’s been called up to the Mexican National Team, will this take away from his play with the Fire?
- DC United – A draw at Chivas kept near United tied on points with Chicago in the East. Luciano Emilio could be the leading scorer by the All-Star break.
- Seattle Sounders FC – A disappointing draw on the road as the Sounders were the better side against Dallas. After a dream start, they’ve been a bit inconsistent and are 8 points back of Chivas in the Western Conference.
- Kansas City Wizards – The Wizards again handed another team their first home loss (the first being Seattle). Josh Wolff is now tied for the league lead in goals and the club has consistent goalkeeping by Kevin Hartman. Next up will be Chivas USA at KC.
- Houston Dynamo – Nothing spectular from this club but they remain near the top of the Western Conference standings. Does this team have enough or do they need to get another player in the summer transfer window?
- Colorado Rapids – The Rapids continue to struggle on the road but were able to get a draw at New England. Conor Casey’s 5 goals have been impressive and he’s making a case for the All-Star team.
- Toronto FC – Toronto has been a bipolar team. 2 great wins at home recently (KC and Chivas), and then a bad loss at home against Chicago. Consistency is the key with Toronto.
- New England Revolution – A team that has managed to keep it together with many early injuries. Once everyone is healthy, arguably the best team if they are playing in form.
- Los Angeles Galaxy – This team has 7 draws this season, and they appear likely to just miss the playoffs. Does Landon Donovan really want to waste away on a subpar team during his prime?
- Real Salt Lake – RSL saw their unbeatens streak at home end on Saturday against KC. The home form is not too worry but the fact they haven’t scored a single away goal is not good.
- New York Red Bulls – This team is confusing to say the least. They can play great soccer in one game, but then look reckless and uninspired in the next. Some help in the midfield is needed.
- Columbus Crew – Can the Crew ever hold onto a lead late in a game? This team has been unable to keep leads throughout the season and a few changes the roster might be needed. It doesn’t look like a second straight MLS Cup for Columbus.
- San Jose Earthquakes – Hey, they aren’t last, right? This team doesn’t look like they are going anywhere but they do have some talent with Convey and Huckerby. A playoff spot would be a good accomplishment.
- FC Dallas – Dallas was at least able to get a draw but the real question is why were there only 8,000 or so fans at the game. The team has been horrible, the attendance just as bad, but could they turn it around? Its early in the season and still time but it doesn’t seem likely.
