2009 Peace Cup Recap and Video Highlights: Juventus tops Real Madrid 2-1, Aston Villa edges FC Porto 2-1

The 2009 Peace Cup continued with the semifinals on Friday as Juventus faced Real Madrid and Aston Villa took on FC Porto. Here’s a recap of both matches along with video highlights.

Juventus tops Real Madrid 2-1 – Video Highlights

Juventus scored an early second half goal to break a 1-1 tie against Real Madrid as they advance to the finals of the Peace Cup on Friday. An early goal from Cannavaro in the 3rd minute gave Juventus the lead but Real Madrid was able to tie it late in the first half. A penalty kick converted by Cristiano Ronaldo in the 42nd minute tied the match as it remained 1-1 at halftime. Juventus struck quick in the second half as Salihamidzic scored the game winner in the 49th minute. Madrid couldn’t find the equalizer in the final 40 minutes of the match.

Aston Villa edges FC Porto 2-1 – Video Highlights

Aston Villa took a 2-0 lead in the first half and held onto it for a 2-1 victory against FC Porto to advance to the Peace Cup finals. They will now play Juventus in the final. Villa scored two first half goals, one from Heskey in the 15th minute and one from Sidwell in the 38th minute. The match was 2-0 at halftime as Porto looked to get back in the match. They struggled to score any goals and were only able to get a penalty converted by Hulk in the 90th minute. Aston Villa plays Juventus on August 2nd.
