CONCACAF 2009 Champions League Recap and Video Highlights: DC United draws 1-1 with Firpo, Pachuca beats Jalapa 3-0
The 2009 CONCACAF Champions League began Tuesday night with DC United taking CD Firpo and Pachuca taking on Jalapa. Here’s a recap of both matches along with video highlights.
DC United draws 1-1 with Firpo CD – Video Highlights
Firpo took an early lead in the first half but DC was able to tie it late in the first half as it ended in a 1-1 draw. A defensive mistake from DC defender Greg Janicki let to the first goal as he gave up the ball to Mario Benitez who scored in the 26th minute. The MLS team fought back and Rodney Wallace earned a penalty at the the end of the 1st half that was converted by Jaime Moreno. The 2nd half was scoreless and the match remained at 1-1.
Pachuca beats CD Jalapa 3-0 – Video Highlights
Mexican side Pachuca got off to a great start in the Champions League with a solid 3-0 victory against Jalapa at home. Pachuca dominated the first half as Jalapa had only one shot and it wasn’t close to being on goal. Late in the 1st half, Pachuca broke the tie with a goal from Juan Carlos Cacha. The 1st half ended at 1-0 for Pachuca as they had all the momentum heading into the 2nd half. Gabriel Caballero extended Pachuca’s lead in the 57th minute with a diving header and Christian Gimenez scored the final goal in the 76th minute. The match ended at 3-0 for Pachuca who controlled the match from the start.
