CONCACAF 2009 Gold Cup Recap: Mexico beats Guadeloupe 2-0, Panama destroys Nicaragua 4-0
It was the last day of group matches in the 2009 Gold Cup with Mexico against Guadeloupe and Panama taking on Nicaragua. Here’s a recap of both matches.
Mexico beats Guadeloupe 2-0
Mexico dominated Guadeloupe on Sunday, holding them to only 1 shot in the entire match while getting 11 of their own. It was a good performance from a team that has underacheived all year and they were able to clinch first place in Group C. Goals were scored by Gerardo Torrado (41st minute) and Miguel Sabah (84th minute) for Mexico as Guadeloupe dropped to 2nd in the group with the loss. Both teams will be in the quarterfinals.

Panama destroys Nicaragua 4-0
Panama held Nicaragua scoreless and was lead by two from Luis Tejada to win 4-0 on Sunday in Group C action. The first half remained scoreless until Blaz Perez scored in the 34th minute to give Panama a lead it would never relinquish. Franklin Lopez was sent off with a red card in the 45th minute which opened the flood gates for Panama in the 2nd half. They scored 3 second half goals, one from Gabrial Gomez (56th minute), and two from Tejada (75th and 87th minute). The win secured Panama 3rd place in the group and a spot in the quarterfinals while Nicaragua remained winless.
