It was the third day of matches and first for Group C in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup in which Mexico took on Nicaragua and Guadeloupe matched up against Panama. Here’s a recap for both matches.

Mexico beats Nicaragua 2-0

Mexico started off with a nice 2-0 victory on Sunday on goals from Luis Noriega (45th minute – penalty), and Pablo Barrera (85th minute). It was a one-sided match that Mexico controlled from start to finish, especially after taking the late 1st half lead. Nicaragua is still in the fight for a quarterfinal spot but needs a result in their last 2 matches.

Guadeloupe edges Panama 2-1

Guadeloupe moved towards a quarterfinal spot with a key 2-1 victory against Panama on Sunday in group play. Panama outshot Guadeloupe but couldn’t take the lead as they fell behind 0-2 after 45 minutes. Goals from Loic Loval (33rd minute) and David Fleurival (42nd minute) helped lead Guadeloupe to the victory. Panama cut the deficit in half with a 68th minute goal from Nelson Barahona but couldn’t get any more goals. Both teams have 2 games left in the group stage.
