The 2009 Peace Cup continued on Tuesday with Juventus taking on Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma and Real Madrid hosting LDU Quito. Here’s a recap of both matches along with video highlights.
Real Madrid tops LDU Quito 4-2 - Video Highlights
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal for Real Madrid as they beat LDU Quito 4-2 to advance to the semifinals in the 2009 Peace Cup. They will face Juventus in the semifinals on July 31st. The match started off slow as there were no first half goals but 6 in the 2nd. Real Madrid took an early 2nd half lead with a penalty kick from Cristiano Ronaldo. It was Ronaldo’s first goal and he earned the penalty with a few dribbling moves past the defense in the box before getting tripped up. Madrid extended their lead with goals from Granero Moline in the 53rd minute, Metzelder in the 71st minute, and one more in the 90th minute from Negredo. LDU Quito fought back and has two goals from Vera, in the 68th and 86th minute. In the last 10 minutes, LDU Quito played very well and had a few chances as they nearly tied it at 3-2. Fortunately for Madrid, they were able to hold on and Negredo’s goal wrapped up the victory.
Juventus beats Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma 3-0 – Video Highlights
Juventus move to 2-0-0 in the Peace Cup Tuesday with a 3-0 win over South Korean side Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma. Juventus as goals from Laquinta (40th minute), Diego (53rd minute), and Legrottaglie (70th minute). Juventus will now play the winner of Group B (Real Madrid) in the semifinals on July 31st.
