2009 English FA Community Shield Recap and Video Highlights: Chelsea outlast Manchester United 2-2 (4-1 on penalties)
The annual English Football Assocation Community Shield is a matchup of the previous season’s FA Cup and Premier League title champions at Wembley Stadium. This year’s match should be a great one as Chelsea takes on Man United. Here’s a recap of the 2009 Community Shield along with video highlights.
Chelsea outlasts Manchester United 2-2 (4-1 on penalties) – Video Highlights
The match started off with a fast pace as Man U came out with the advantage. They looked sharper and ready to play as Nani opened the scoring with a shot from outside the box that Cech missed. It was not a great play from Cech who probably should have saved the shot or at least gotten a hand on it. With a 1-0 lead Man U looked in control but Chelsea slowly began working their way back into the match. The last 10-15 minutes saw Chelsea get some strong pressure but Man U was dangerous in the counter. Neither team would add to the scoreline as it remained 1-0 for Man United after 45 minutes.
The second half was almost all Chelsea as they came out with much more confidence and energy. They were able to find an equalizer in the 52nd minute as a cross into the box deflected off Drogba and Man U keeper Foster towards a wide open Carvalho who headed it into the open net. It was a poor play from Foster who never looked great during the match. Chelsea continued their dominance and another goal seemed imminent but it wouldn’t come for another 20 minutes. It was a controversial play as Ballack appeared to foul Evra (but it wasn’t called) and Chelsea ended up on a 3 on 2 breakaway. Drogba passed to a wide open Lampard who took a shot that deflected off Foster’s hand and into the back of the net. Again, it was a bad play from Foster who should had made the save but also a lucky break that play wasn’t halted after Evra appeared to be fouled and was down during the play. As the game winded down it seemed Chelsea would be champions but Man U had one more late surge. In stoppage time, Ryan Giggs sent a nice through ball for Wayne Rooney who flicked a shot past goalkeeper Cech for the game tying goal in the 90th minute. The match was tied at 2-2 and would go to penalties.
Chelsea looked much more confident in the 2nd half and carried through to the penalty shootout. Lampard stepped up and converted the penalty for Chelsea while Giggs had his shot saved by Cech. Chelsea converted all of their kicks in the next 3 rounds to win while Man United missed another one to seal the match. Giggs and Evra both had weak penalty tries. Overall, Chelsea were the better team and deserved to win but can they keep it going into the Premier League season?

Bravooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to the Blues and Ancelotti in particular,
Chelsea was a leading team during Mourhino’s days and I think with the coming of the new coach, the glory can be revived. Why not? You have all the ability to do that!
Watch out! Ibrohimovic you are sources of disgrace for Chelsea failure for the rest of the seasons for frequent change of Managers. Now, give time for Ancelloti to do his duty. Catch you next time on important matters!!
