ken-t_66621Many of the European leagues began this weekend including the French Ligue 1 and the German Bundesliga. In France, Charlie Davies had his debut for Sochaux while Carlos Bocanegra has become a regular for Rennes. In Germany, Michael Bradley played for Monchengladbach while Steve Cherundolo started for Hannover 96. Here’s a recap of the Americans abroad in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga along with video highlights.

Carlos Bocanegra (LB) – Stade Rennais (Rennes) – Ligue 1- beat Boulogne 3-0 – Video Highlights

Bocanegra started and played the full match for Rennes who won easily against Boulogne at home to start the Ligue 1 season. The club finish in the top 10 least season but reach the French Cup final and will be looking to build on that success with a spot in European football. The American defender had one shot (not on goal) and will be with the National Team on Wednesday for the Mexico match.

Charlie Davies (ST) – Sochaux – Ligue 1 – beat Auxerre 1-0 – Video Highlights

Davies just transferred from Swedish club Hammarby over the summer and played 20 minutes in his debut for Sochaux as they won 1-0 in the season opener. Although he didn’t get much playing time, Davies had a shot on goal and won some free kicks. He’s will also be with the National Team against Mexico during the week.

Steve Cherundolo (RB) – Hannover – Bundesliga – lost to Hertha Berlin 0-1 – Video Highlights

Cherundolo started and played the full match for Hannover as they fell to Hertha 0-1 on the road. The American right back had an injury at the end of last season but appears to be fully recovered and will be with the National Team against Mexico. In the match, Cherundolo earned a yellow card and had no shots on goal.

Michael Bradley (MF) – Borussia Monchengladbach – Bundesliga – draw 3-3 with Bochum – Video Highlights

Bradley started the match for Monchengladbach and played 70 minutes as they gave up a 3-0 lead after halftime. The German club just barely escaped relegation and will probably have a similar problem this season as well. In the match he earned a yellow card and had no shots on goal.

Kenny Cooper (ST) – 1860 Munich – Bundesliga 2 – beat Koblenz 2- Video Highlights (scored 1 goal)

Cooper had a dream start for 1860 Munich after just transferring from MLS side FC Dallas as he scored a goal in the 17th minute. The goal was scored off a header in the box off a cros as he was in great position and beat the goalkeeper. The American played 72 minutes before being subbed out in the 2nd half to a standing ovation from the 1860 Munich fans. He had several shots on goal and seems to have adjusted quickly to the German 2nd division.
