French Ligue 1 Recap – Sunday August 16, 2009
The French Ligue 1 wrapped up its 2nd week of matches on Sunday with Boulogne v Grenoble, Marseille v Lille, and Nice v Stade Rennais (Rennes). Here’s a recap of all three matches.
Boulogne defeats Grenoble 2-1
Boulogne got a home win on Sunday behind two goals from Gregory Thil. The first one was in the 34th minute and he struck again only 4 minutes later in the 38th minute. It would remain 2-0 at halftime but Grenoble cut the lead in half in the 46th minute on goal from Danijel Ljuboja. Boulogne was hang on the for victory as it would end at 2-1.
Nice and Stade Rennais draw 1-1
Two evenly matched teams played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday. Nice took the lead in the 44th minute on a goal from Chaouki Ben Saada but Rennes would reply quickly. Only a minute later Rennes scored on a penalty kick to make it 1-1 at halftime. Rennes would get a red card as Junich Inamoto would thrown out in the 77th minute but they would still hold on for the draw.
Marseille tops Lille 1-0
Marseille beat Lille 1-0 on an early 11th minute goal from Brandao. Lille was in the match even after conceding the early goal but defender Mathieu Debuchy received a red card in the 65th minute and all but ended their comeback chances.
