French Ligue 1 Week One Recap – Bordeaux and Marseille win

The French Ligue 1 began this weekend with a full set of matches. Reigning 2008-09 champions Bordeaux and runner-up Marseille were both victorious in their first matches while other teams struggled. Overall, it’s a long season and not much can be drawn from the first week of matches. Here’s a recap of Week 1, video highlights, and the latest league table.

Marseille and Bordeaux start off with victories

The top two teams from last season started off strong with wins in Week 1. Other teams getting wins in the opening week were Rennes with a solid 3-0 victory at home and Nancy Lorraine with a good road win at Valenciennes. It’s till early in the season and hard to tell what teams will be at the top of the table in May.

It’s very early

Strong teams such as Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon had draws but its only the first week of the season. It won’t be until late September to mid October before the league table will start to sort to see which teams will be contending for the league title.
