Real Madrid beats Marseille 3-0 – Video Highlights
The Spanish giants (Real Madri) hosted French side Marseille for their first home match in this season’s UEFA Champions League. Marseille was able to hold the Madrid offense scoreless in the first half. Real Madrid controlled most of the possession and chances but couldn’t convert any.
Possession was %59-41 in Madrid’s favor, shots were 9-6 for Madrid, and corner kicks 3-1 for Madrid. The match was scoreless after 45 minutes but was Real Madrid’s for the taking.
Real Madrid would get two goals early in the second half and put the match out of reach for Marseille. The team came out aggressive and Cristiano Ronaldo gave Real Madrid the lead in the 58th minute with a through ball from Pepe. Only a few minutes later, Ronaldo would earn a penalty kick as he was fouled in the 57th minute. Kaka stepped up to take the penalty and converted as it was now a 2-0 lead.
Any hope for Marseille was lost in the 64th minute as Ronaldo scored yet again with an assist from Karim Benzema. After the three quick goals, there were little hope of Marseille getting any points from the match.
Real Madrid continued to control the match with a comfortable lead. They would win the match 3-0 on goals from Kaka and Ronaldo.
