USA beats Trinidad & Tobago 1-0 in CONCACAF WCQ – Recap and Video Highlights – Wednesay, September 9, 2009
The United States continued their CONCACAF 2010 World Cup Qualifying campaign at Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. T&T’s chances of qualifiation are basically over while the United States can significantly improve theirs with a victory. Here’s a recap of the match along with video highlights.

1st Half
The match started out fairly even with the USA struggling to get many chances and looking vulnerable on the counterattack. Trinidad & Tobago had the better chances early while the United States had more possession. As with the El Salvador game, there were some defensive lapses by the USA that made the match even midway through the first half.
In the 27th minute, Carlos Edwards send a good cross to the back post for Kenwyne Jones who headed it on goal but right at Tim Howard who made the save. The home side continued to get chances and again nearly scored the first goal in the 27th minute as a shot hit off the crossbar. It was a quick throw-in that caught the USA defense asleep. Only a few seconds later on a counterattack, Jozy Altidore fo the USA had a shot was just saved.
It wasn’t until these scoring chances that the match really started to pick up. The shot hitting the crossbar seemed to wake up the Americans who started to play better and be more aggressive. While they were creating better chances, the USA defense continued to be shaky and was lucky not to concede a goal after the first 35 minutes.
Another great chance for T&T came in the 38th minute as Trent Noel took a free kick just outside the box that forced USA goalkeeper Tim Howard to make a diving save. Noel had another free kick from a similar spot in the 43rd minute that just went wide but was very close. The best chance for the USA came in stoppage time as Altidore had a through ball for Donovan but the T&T goalkeeper Ince made a nice save. The first half would end at 0-0.
2nd Half
The United States started out the second half with some good chances in the first five minutes. Trinidad & Tobago came back in the 54th minute with a shot that just went wide as the match was very even early in the second half. For the United States, Clint Dempsey had a rough match as his form was very poor and he struggled to make a difference all night.
In the 58th minute, T&T got another free kick just outside the box in a dangerous position. The free kick was again shot on goal but it was wide. With the Americans struggling to get a goal, Bob Bradley went to his bench around the 60th minute as Stuart Holden and B
