The CONCACAF Region has two of its three automatic qualification spots decided with Mexico and the United States winning on Saturday. The third spot is up for grabs as Honduras and Costa Rica still have a chance. The fourth place team will play the fifth place team from CONMEBOL (South America) to determine the final spot from both regions. A video recap of Saturday’s match can be found here. Here’s a list of the latest CONCACAF 2010 World Cup Qualifying Standings on Monday, October 12, 2009 along with the hypothetical for Costa Rica and Honduras.
Qualification:
- The United States and Mexico have qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
- Honduras and Costa Rica are guaranteed at least the CONMEBOL/CONCACAF play-off berth.
- Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador have been eliminated.
On the final matchday (14 October):
- Costa Rica will qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup if:
- they beat the United States OR
- Honduras fail to beat El Salvador.
- Honduras will qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup if:
- they defeat El Salvador AND Costa Rica fail to beat the United States.
