FC Barcelona draws with Osasuna 1-1 – Recap and Video Highlights – Saturday, October 31, 2009

Barcelona once again dominated possession as they usually do every match but couldn’t score in the first half. Osasuna was forced to play defensively but did have some chances and able to hold the defending La Liga Champions scoreless for the first 45 minutes.

The second half was more of the same as Osasuna did not send many players forward. The club seemed content with a scoreless draw as they had little chances in the second half. Barcelona never seemed in danger of losing the match and one goal was likely to be enough for a win. Seydou Keita scored in the 72nd minute to give Barcelona a 1-0 lead.

The goal came from a cross from the wing by Carlos Puyol and Keita was wide open in front of goal. It was Keita’s fourth goal in the last two La Liga matches. Barca kept getting chances but Osasuna goalkeeper Ricardo was solid. He made several saves and it could have easily been 3-0 or 4-0.

As Barcelona seemed in total control, Osasuna put on a large charge for an equalizer. A cross sent in during stoppage time was deflected off Barca defender Pique, then off goalkeeper Victor Valdez, and into the back of the net. It was a poor clearance from Pique who instead hit it off Valdez for Osasuna’s late goal. It was a stunning result as Barcelona had the match in hand with only seconds remaining.

The match ended at 1-1 and Barcelona now with a 1 point lead over Osasuna.
