world-cup-2010Two of the favorites for next season’s World Cup Finals in South Africa won on Saturday. Germany and Spain both had road wins on Saturday, October 10, 2009 in the UEFA region. Here’s a recap of both matches along with video highlights.

Germany tops Russia 1-0 in UEFA World Cup Qualifying – Video Highlights

Germany defeated Russia on 35th minute goal from Miroslav Klose. Russia couldn’t find any goals despite playing the final 20 minutes with a man advantage due to Jerome Boateng of Germany receiving a red card (2nd yellow). The win clinches Germany as group winners and a ticket to South Africa next summer. Russia has clinched 2nd place and will be in the play-off round to determine if they qualify.

Spain beats Armenia 2-1 in UEFA World Cup Qualifying – Video Highlights

Spain had goals from Cesc Fabregas (33rd minute) and Juan Manuel Garcia Mata (65th minute penalty) to edge Armenia 2-1 on Saturday. After taking the lead on the Fabregas goal, Spain failed to hold onto the lead as Armenia tied it with a 58th minute goal from Robert Arzumanyan. Spain recovered with Mata’s goal and is a perfect 9-0-0 in World Cup Qualifying.
