Manchester United beats Blackburn 2-0 – Video Highlights
The match had a slow start as neither team really had any great chances in the first 20 minutes. Manchester United was not sharp and had not shots on goal while Blackburn was holding steady defensively. Man U really started to pick up their play after this point and almost made it 1-0 in the 30th minute. A cross was sent in the box and headed in goal by Dimitar Berbatov. It was saved but should have been a goal as Berbatov didn’t strike it well.
The crowd started to get more into the match and Blackburn was forced to defend. Man U weren’t able to find the back of the net in the final minutes of the first half. It was 0-0 after 45 minutes.
Man U continued their momentum late in the first half into the second. Berbatov finally converted one of his chances in the 55th minute. A shot from Evra fell to Berbatov who took a great first touch (with his back to goal) and then volleyed as he turned towards the goal and beat Robinson.
The goal gave Man U some extra confidence as they started to take control in the final 30 minutes. Berbatov was taken in the 79th minute as Michael Owen came into the match. Wayne Rooney would score a goal in the 87th minute to seal the victory. Anderson sent a low cross into the box and Rooney volleyed it to the far corner and into the back of the net. It was now 2-0 for United.
Blackburn appeared to have scored in the first minute of stoppage time but it was ruled offside. The replays show it was a mistake and should have been a goal for the visitors. Man U never stopped attacking and Michael Owen just missed a shot wide in the final minute of stoppage time. United would recover from last weekend’s loss to Liverpool with a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.
