Manchester United draws with Sunderland 2-2 – Video Highlights
Manchester United did not come out strong and Sunderland would take advantage. Darrent Bent, who’s been in great form this season, scored to give Sunderland the lead in the 7th minute. It was a great first touch from the striker and solid finish. Man U would not even get a shot on goal in the first half and once again is showing signs of missing Cristiano Ronaldo.
It was 1-0 after 45 minutes but much of the action would happen in the 2nd half. United found the equalizer in the 51st minute as John O’Shea sent a cross into the box where Dimitar Berbatov who would finish it to beat the goalkeeper and make it 1-1. Sunderland were not about to back down and would respond in lesss than 10 minutes. Kenwyne Jones would get a score on a header in the 58th minute go put his team up 2-1. It was a 50-50 ball that Jones headed past Foster who should have done better on the play.
The last few minutes were frantic as Man U scrambled to salvage a draw or somehow find 2 goals late. Kieren Richardson of Sunderland made a stupid mistake of getting frustrated with a call and kicking the ball away. The referee responded with a red card in the 85th minute. Man U continued to attack and would find the goal they needed.
Evra took a shot that deflected off Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand and into the back of the net. It was a break as the shot was going wide and declared an own goal off Ferndinand. Overall, a disappointing performance at Old Trafford by United and a nice draw for Sunderland who will take the points.
