Real Madrid takes on Getafe looking to keep pace with FC Barcelona in the La Liga on Saturday, October 31, 2009. Were they able to win or did Getafe score an upset?

Real Madrid defeat Getafe 2-0

Real Madrid did not start out strong as the match was scoreless through 15 minutes. Getafe was in the match early and created chances of their own as the Madrid defense was not sharp. As the match continued past the 20 minute mark, Real Madrid started to get consistent pressure and chances. With about 15 minutes left to play in the first half it was still 0-0 and Getafe still very much in the match.

Overall, Getafe actually had more possession (57-43) in the first half. Neither team would score as it would remain 0-0 after 45 minutes.

The second half started out with Real Madrid looking for goals. They would find two within 3 minutes as Gonzalo Higuain scored in the 53rd and 56th minute. The first goal was assisted by Marcelo and the second from Benzema. The goals all but sealed the win as Real Madrid were no in control and Getafe would have to find something special to come back.

Getafe continued to get chances and Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas was tested. Neither team would score in the rest of the match as Real Madrid is now top of the table (Barcelona play later today).
