The upset of the night was Alcorcon crushing Real Madrid 4-0. Alcorcon scored three first half goals and played an inspsired match as Real Madrid was never able to match their intensity. It was a surprising result. Madrid still have a chance to advance but must make up the 0-4 deficit on the second leg in a few weeks.
Atletico Madrid won 2-0 on the road and in good position to advance with the second leg at home. Sevilla FC also won on the road 4-2 and will likely advance with the second leg at home. Sporting Gijon and Recreativo Huelva was the lone draw at 1-1. Sporting will host the second leg.
Overall, there were two favorites winning as expected, one major upset, and one draw that was not a surprise. The second leg of the Real Madrid/Alcorcon tie will be one to watch to see what happens.
