Match Preview
Liverpool will be without captain Steven Gerrard who has a groin injury more serious than originally thought. Rafa Benitez will have a limited roster as South Americans Javier Mascherano and Lucas Leiva will return from South American unlikely to be fit for the full match. The club is currently six points back of league leaders Chelsea and four back of Manchester United. Liverpool will have their leading scorer, Fernando Torres, who leads the EPL with 8 goals.
Sunderland have few injury concerns and have enjoyed early season success under manager Steve Bruce. They currently are in the top half of the table with 13 points and led by the consistent scoring of Darren Bent (7 goals). Bent has been a nice addition to Sunderland and teamed well with forward Kenwyne Jones. Bruce has the club playing with confidence.
Will Liverpool be able to find their form on the road without Gerrard? Can Sunderland keep their strong start going with a win at home?
