Chelsea draws with Atletico Madrid 2-2 – Video Highlights

It was a quick start as Atletico Madrid came out with confidence playing at home. It was a even match to start as both teams had some chances. Atletico would start to get the better play and almost scored around the 20th minute as Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech was forced to make a diving save. They had more possession but couldn’t convert these into great chances. Chelsea struggled to get many chances the longer the half went on and was forced to play defense for the majority of the first half.

Neither team had many great chances and it would remain scoreless heading into halftime.

The second half started as both teams continued to look for a goal. The defenses were solid for both clubs as it was not a wide open match. With about 30 minutes left in the match, one goal seemed enough to get the win in the match. Atletico Madrid would find that goal in the 66th minute as Sergio Aguero scored. The goal came from a cross into the box that wasn’t cleared and fell to Aguero who volleyed a shot into the back of the net. Chelsea would have about 25 minutes to come back from an 0-1 deficit.

Chelsea picked up their play after Atletico took the lead and would find a goal from Didier Drogba. The Chelsea striker was back in his first match since being suspended three matches for conduct after the semifinal against Barcelona last May. In the 82nd minute, Drogba headed a cross into the back of the net to make it tied at 1-1. It was a disappointing goal for Atletico to concede as they were only about 10 minutes away from victory.

The final minutes of the match were action packed as both teams would score goals. Drogba would score his second of the night as he beat a few defenders, had his first shot saved, but scored on the rebound. The Drogba goal came in the 88th minute and Atletico would respond in the 90th minute. Aguero would score in the 90th minute on a free kick to make it 2-2.

The match would end at 2-2.
