Chicago Fire beats New England Revolution 2-0 (3-2 on aggregate) – Video Highlights

The Fire had their work cut out for them but played a solid match to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Throughout the season Chicago was one of the toughest road teams and often struggled at home, but they had goals from John Thorrington and Cuahtemoc Blanco to win 2-0.

Chicago took the lead in 35th minute with Thorrington’s goal which was a shot to the left lower corner from inside the box. It was a well deserved win for Chicago who outshot New England 21 to 12 and 13 to 4 for shots on goal. The Revolution failed to tie the match and The Fire would grab the aggregate lead in the 83rd minute. Blanco received a pass in the box, took a good first touch, and easily scored.

The Revolution had several injuries on the season and the loss of Steve Ralston and Taylor Twellman were too much to overcome. Chicago will now face Real Salt Lake next weekend with the winner advancing to the MLS Cup Finals.
