Real Madrid beats Atletico Madrid 3-2 – Video Highlights

Real Madrid started off strong in the match but Atletico Madrid would make a late charge in the second half.

The first half was largely dominated by Real Madrid who would take the lead in the 5th minute with a goal from Kaka. Their lead would be doubled 20 minutes later when Marcelo would score with an assist from Benzema. The club was firing on all cylinders offensively and looked like they would cruise to victory. The match was scoreless for the next 40 or so minutes until Real Madrid would score again.

This time it was a goal from Gonzalo Higuain who scored in the 64th minute. Real Madrid appeared to be in total control and it would be a shock to concede 3 goals in 25 or so minutes. Atletico would not back down or give up as they would mount a comeback late. They would score two goals within a few minutes to make it 2-3. The first came from Diego Forlan in the 79th minute and Sergio Aguero in the 81st minute.

The match showed Real Madrid’s ability to score goals and get a lead early but their defensive lapses that have been their achilles heel. The final few minutes were frantic as Atletico pushed for an equalizer and Real Madrid tried to hold on for the three points. Atletico had several chances late and the Real Madrid defense continues to show problems and unable to keep clean sheets.

Atletico would not find a third goal and Real Madrid would just hold on for a 3-2 win. It was not a convincing win for Real Madrid but they did get the three points to stay close to Barcelona atop the La Liga table.
