English Premier League Previews, Predictions, and USA/UK TV Listings for Monday, December 28, 2009

The English Premier League has several matches on Monday, December 28, 2009 including Chelsea v Fulham in a London derby. It’s a busy stretch for the EPL with some teams playing 2 matches in 3 days and no winter break. Everton v Burnley, 15:00 – Everton wins 1-0

Stoke v Birmingham, 15:00 – 1-1 Draw

Tottenham v West Ham, 12:45 – Tottenham wins 2-0 – Sky Sports 1 (UK), Fox Soccer Channel (USA)

Wolverhampton v Man City, 19:45 – Man City wins 3-2 – Sky Sports 1 (UK), ESPN2 (USA)

Previews

The second round of festive fixtures gets under way with some intriguing matches, beginning with a London derby which sees Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp up against his old club West Ham United.

Leaders Chelsea face neighbours Fulham and the day’s programme finishes with Roberto Mancini’s first away match in charge of Manchester City who visit Wolverhampton Wanderers.

SPURS V WEST HAM

Tottenham Hotspur have won three of their last four outings at White Hart Lane where they have yet to draw this season, winning six out of nine. Spurs have not finished all-square in 15 home matches.

After moving out of the relegation zone with a Boxing Day victory over bottom club Portsmouth, West Ham United are bidding to avoid a hat-trick of defeats on the road. They have not won in eight away fixtures.

The Hammers have not won in their last 10 trips to White Hart Lane and have scored only once in their last four meetings with Spurs.

BLACKBURN V SUNDERLAND

Sunderland have gone six matches without a win and have slipped to the bottom of the current form table. They have lost their last five on the road.

Blackburn Rovers are strong at home winning four and drawing three of their nine outings at Ewood Park where they have failed to score in their last three outings.

Rovers are without a win in seven and have not beaten the Black Cats in their last three meetings.

CHELSEA V FULHAM

Leaders Chelsea have Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and John Obi Mikel available for the last time before they depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Blues have failed to win only one of their nine matches at Stamford Bridge where they are unbeaten this season but Fulham are third in the current form table, drawing four of their last five on the road. They are unbeaten in eight in all competitions and have conceded just once in four league fixtures but have not won in seven away from home

Fulham have beaten their neighbours just once in the last 26 league and cup meetings and have not won at Stamford Bridge since October 1979, in the second tier. Their last top-flight victory at Chelsea was in 1964.

EVERTON V BURNLEY

Burnley have yet to win on the road in the Barclays Premier League, taking just one point from nine matches and shipping 29 goals.

Everton have drawn their last four matches and have finished all-square in five of their last six at Goodison Park. They have not won in seven, equalling their worst run in the Premier League under David Moyes.

The Toffees have not beaten the Clarets in six meetings since October 1973, including a 1-0 defeat at Turf Moor earlier this season to leave Burnley seeking their first ever Premier League double. But they have gone eight without a win.

STOKE V BIRMINGHAM

Stoke City have gone five without a win, losing three. They have lost four of their last five away fixtures, drawing the other.

The Potters host a Birmingham City side unbeaten in 10, winning two and drawing two of their last four on the road.

Stoke have not beaten Birmingham in their last six meetings, the last four of which have produced just two goals.

WOLVES V MAN CITY

Roberto Mancini got off to a winning start as manager of Manchester City with a 2-0 victory at home to Stoke City. Now he faces his first away fixture against a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who have won their last two outings at Molineux.

Wolves have never won three successive home matches in the Premier League but City have gone seven on the road without a win.

The Midlands side have won only one of the last five meetings between the clubs.
