The Old Firm continued on Sunday, January 3, 2010 as Celtic hosted Rangers in the Scottish Premeir League. The two Glasgow teams are the biggest and most successful in Scotland. It’s a fierce rivalry that continues to be one of the most watched in Europe. Here’s a recap along with video highlights of the Scottish Premier League match on Sunday, January 3, 2010.
Celtic 1-1 Rangers – Video Highlights
Rangers came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in Sunday’s Old Firm derby and stay seven points clear at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
Celtic, who have a game in hand on their city rivals, did most of the pressing and Marc-Antoine Fortune had a goal disallowed before Barry Robson crashed a header against the crossbar.
Tony Mowbray’s men missed several chances but broke the deadlock with 11 minutes left when substitute Scott McDonald nodded in an Aiden McGeady cross from close range.
But Lee McCulloch headed home a Steven Davis corner to equalise two minutes later and Allan McGregor pulled off a superb save (pictured) to deny Georgios Samaras with time running out.
There are no Clydesdale Bank Premier League fixtures next weekend because of the Scottish Cup – Rangers return to action at Hamilton on January 16, with Celtic at home to Falkirk later that day.
Celtic manager Tony Mowbray said: “We played on the front foot. We felt we had done enough to come away with three points. I am trying to build a team not just to win the league this season but for the next four or five years and hopefully our brand of football will do that in the long run.”
Rangers boss Walter Smith said: “We were very fortunate to get a draw. Celtic played very well. It was a tough afternoon for a lot of our boys. Second half we did a bit better. We are delighted to have got a point from a game we should not have. We were not with the pace of the game at all.”
