Chelsea hosted Arsenal on Sunday, February 7, 2010 in the biggest match of the week in the English Premier League. A loss for Arsenal would put them nine points back and probably out of the title race. A win for Chelsea would put them back above Manchester United and put pressure back on Manchester United. The match was at Stamford Bridge in front of over 40,000.
Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal – Video Highlights
Two goals from Didier Drogba were all Chelsea needed as they beat Arsenal 2-0 and went top of the table.
Arsenal failed to lack the quality in the final third needed to make a comeback and Chelsea’s defense held strong in the second half to keep it at 2-0.
The first goal was off a corner kick as it was headed to the far post where Drogba volleyed it into the back of the net. The second goal was on a counterattack that Drogba recieved a pass in the box, dribbled towards goal and scored on a shot to the left corner.
It was a terrific win for Chelsea who are showing consistency and the favorites right now to win the league title. Once again for Arsenal they’ve shown the inability to get points in crucial matches down the stretch. They will likely finish third in the table but the title race seems too far out of reach with less than half the season remaning.
