Bolton, on the other hand, need points as the are in a relegation fight at the bottom of the table. They have shown a rise in form under new manager Owen Coyle but are only a point above 18th place before the start of the match.

Manchester City got goals from Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor on their way to a 2-0 victory against Bolton.
It was not a dominating performance from City who were inconsistent. They would take the lead in the first half as Tevez converted a penalty kick. It would remain at 1-0 heading into the second half.
Bolton came out much strong in the second half and had City on their heels early. The Wanderers couldn’t find the back of the net and eventually Adebayor would give City a commanding 2-0 lead. It came from a great pass from Viera to Adebayor who chested it down and volleyed it into the back of the net. It was a clinical finish from Adebayor who is starting to show find his form again after a horrifying experience during the Africa Cup of Nations.
Man City would hold on for the 2-0 lead and now move up to 5th place and only behind 4th place Liverpool on goal difference. Bolton remain in danger of being relegated.
