Real Madrid hosted Espanyol on Saturday, February 6, 2010 in La Liga looking to keep pace with leaders FC Barcelona. Before the weekend, Real Madrid were five points from Barcelona. Espanyol is in the middle of the table a six points from the relegation zone. Cristiano Ronaldo was once again missing from the Real Madrid line-up due to a suspension from a previous match.

Real Madrid started out strong and dominated for an easy victory at home against Espanyol. Madrid wasted no time with an early goal from Sergio Ramos (5th minute). The goal came from a free kick that was crossed into the box and headed by Ramos past the goalkeeper.
The second goal of the first half came from Kaka who scored in the 30th minute. It resulted from a cross headed on goal by Raul and the rebound came directly to Kaka who volleyed it into the back of the net. Espanyol rarely had any possession in the final third or any chances in the first half. It could have easily been three or four goals for Madrid if not for some great goalkeeping from Espanyol’s Carlos Kameni.
Espanyol would pick up their play in the second half and finally get some shots on goal but they were unable to convert those into goals. Real Madrid had the three points in hand and would add more one more with a goal from Gonzalo Higuain in the 90th minute.
