Barcelona holds the tiebreakers so Real Madrid would need to be ahead to win the title. Until the loss on Saturday, Real Madrid had won 12 La Liga matches in a row.
Almeria are 13th in the La Liga table and eights point clear of the relegation zone. They have a 7-6-2 home record with a +3 goal difference. The club is winless in their last three matches and lost 4-2 at the Bernabeu when the two teams played in December 2009.
Real will need to respond after the Barcelona loss and finish strong in their final matches. Even if they win their remaining matches in La Liga, it’s likely it won’t be enough to overtake Barcelona at the top of the table. They will finish second at worst and have to put everything in the final weeks of the season.
