Newcastle United earn promotion to English Premier League for 2010-11 season
Newcastle United, who were relegation last season to the English Championship, guaranteed one of the to automatic promotion spots the English Premier League on Monday, April 5, 2010. They defeated Sheffield United 2-1 (video highlights here) and were helped by Nottingham Forest’s 0-0 draw against Cardiff City.
Overall, it’s been a very strong season for Newcastle who are one of the most popular and successful clubs in England. Their relegation was a surprise but many thought they would be able to gain promotion next season. As of Monday, April 5, 2010 Newcastle United were first in the table with 89 points and a +48 goal difference.
