The reigning World Cup champions played their second match of the World Cup looking to get three points against New Zealand. They were the huge favorites heading into the match but New Zealand are a side that has surprised by making it to the tournament and getting a draw in their opening match.

The Kiwis would score an early goal and hold Italy to only one goal as they earned their second consecutive draw.
The goals were from New Zealand’s Shane Smeltz in the 7th minute and Italy’s Vincenzo Iaquinta in the 29th minute.
It was a surprising result and not a great sign for the Italians. Both teams would qualify for the next round if they can find their final matches which is Slovakia for Italy and Paraguay for New Zealand.
