The first teams to play their second group stage match were South Africa and Uruguay who met on Wednesday night in Johannesburg. Both teams had draws in their first match and a win would put them in great position to move onto the knockout round while a loss would make things very difficult.

South Africa 0-3 Uruguay Recap

Uruguay would play a fantastic match led by two goals from Diego Forlan as they moved to four points after two matches in Group A.

South Africa did not have many clear cut chances and struggled to break down the Uruguayan defense. The opening goal for Forlan was a bit of luck as it deflected off a defender and then the crossbar but it gave Uruguay the 1-0 lead. South Africa was unable to find an equalizer and Forlan would convert a penalty kick in the 80th minute to seal the three points.

The final goal for Uruguay came in stoppage time as the Bafana Bafana had a defense lapse and Periera was unmarked in the box. The result means that South Africa likely needs to beat France to have a chance to make it to next round and even then it might not happen.
