Former Barcelona Player Rafa Marquez Signs With New York Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls have announced the signing of their third designated player and it is Mexican Rafa Marquez. The midfielder/defender (has played central defense as well as a defensie/holding midfielder position) should be available for the Red Bulls in their next MLS match (next Sunday against Chicago Fire).

The move had been rumored for a while but is not official. With the signing, the Red Bulls now have Juan Pablo Angel, Thierry Henry, and Marquez which are arguably the best trio in the league right now. Marquez will likely play a holding midfielder position and help to provide service for Angel and Henry.

Below is a statement from the Red Bulls on the move. There will be a live press conference tomorrow to unveil Marquez to the public.

One Response to Former Barcelona Player Rafa Marquez Signs With New York Red Bulls

  1. Not a Mexico fan, not a NYRB fan, but I like it and don’t get the hate that is about to come…besides the fact that they went from being not too good to a legit contender.

    I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team’s identity change this much mid-season.
