Manchester City v Red Bull Salzburg Preview

Man City manager Roberto Mancini

“Even if we make changes, we can put a good team out on the pitch. There will be changes tomorrow, playing two games inside three days is difficult and we can’t play a lot of the same players in both games.

“We can only think about what we do, the result is up to us, and we must not think about what is going on elsewhere.”

“All the teams that come to Eastlands come to put all their players behind the ball, and that’s difficult for us sometimes, but I think we can deal with that and score a lot of goals at home.

“Supporters are supporters, when you win they are happy but not when you lose, that’s normal. But we must always respect them, and they were not happy after Birmingham. Our job is to continue to work, keep improving and try to win for them but we want them to get behind us. They will be important because we must win this game to get to the second stage.”

“I’m happy because of my time at Leicester in 2001, I have some good memories of playing there but also because I can meet my teacher! I’m happy to be facing Sven and pleased for him as well, it should be a good match. We speak every three or four days and I know he is enjoying managing in England again.”

Man City player David Silva

“The pace of the game is a lot quicker in the Premier League, European games are more strategic, almost like games of chess. There’s a lot more emphasis on tactics, certainly from the teams we have played against.

“But I think we’re doing OK so far. If it was not for the bad luck we encountered in the last game, we would probably be on top of the group. We’re not far away, and it’s in our hands to do well.

“Everything has been made so much easier by the way I’ve been treated so well by my team mates and everyone here at the club who has given me a helping hand.

“Moving here was tough to start off with, it was difficult physically, the speed of the game was different and I had to adapt to a different lifestyle. The language was a problem, even when playing, but things have gone very well for me since. The weather’s gone a lot colder but I don’t mind it because everything else is going so well for me.”

“I can’t wait to play in the FA Cup because it’s such a famous competition around the world. I like the challenge of knock-out football, and with Leicester being at home they will be motivated to spring a surprise on us. Every team wants to beat us, no matter what competition it is, and this will be no different. We have an important few weeks before that but I will be really looking forward to it.”
