Real Madrid moved within two points of La Liga leaders FC Barcelona with a narrow win at Getafe.
Cristiano Ronaldo would give the visitors the lead in the 11th minute with a penalty kick while Mesut Ozil made it 2-0 in the 19th minute. Getafe would come back in the 29th minute with a Daniel Parejo as the score was 2-1 by halftime.
Ronaldo would add another goal in the 57th minute to extend the lead but Getafe would reply again. After Alvaro Arbeloa was sent off in the 82nd minute for a second yellow, Getafe took advantage with a 85th minute Juan Albin goal.
For Madrid, it was a mixed performance as they created several great chances but struggled to convert them. Striker Karim Benzema continues to disappoint and rumors persist about his impending departure from the club. Kaka, who has been injured for months, came on in the 76th minute.
Getafe would continue to attack for the equalizer but didn’t find it as Real Madrid held on for the three points. Real Madrid will play on Thursday in the second leg of the Copa del Rey (round of 16) while Getafe hosts Real Betis.
