Real Madrid defeated Villarreal 4-2 in the Spanish Primera Division (La Liga) on January 9, 2011.

Real Madrid 4-2 Villarreal Recap

A hat trick by Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka’s first goal of the season led the way for Real Madrid.

The win puts them within two points of La Liga leaders FC Barcelona while Villarreal are in third place. It was a rough first half for Real Madrid as Villarreal had a 1-0 lead on a 7th minute Cani goal and a 2-1 lead after a Marco Ruben 18th minute goal.

Despite playing poorly, Real Madrid would tie it at 2-2 by halftime with Ronaldo goals in the 9th minute and 45th minute. In the second half, it was a much different match with Villarreal on their heels. Some substitutions and different formations helped to energize Real as Ronaldo gave them the lead in the 79th minute and Kaka scored in the 82nd minute.

Ronaldo was definitely the man of the match and now has 22 goals in 18 La Liga matches. Overall, he has 30 goals in 27 matches for all competitions.
