Uruguay scored early and never trailed as they won at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Diego Lugano scored in the 12th minute to make it 1-0 but Ireland’s Shane Long replied in the 15th minute (to make it 1-1). Uruguay would then break the match open with goals from Edinson Cavani in the 22nd minute and Abel Hernandez in the 39th minute.
The home side would make it 2-3 with a 48th minute Keith Fahey goal. Despite five goals scored in under 50 minutes, there would be no goal in the final 40 or so minutes of the match.
Uruguay will play in the 2011 Copa America this summer while Ireland will continue Euro 2012 qualifying.
