Chelsea clinched second place in the EPL with a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge against the Magpies.
It appeared Chelsea could be in for an easy win as they took a 1-0 lead with a 2nd minute Branislav Ivanovic goal. Despite the early lead for Chelsea, Newcastle would level the match with a 10th minute Jonas Gutierrez goal. The match would continue at 1-1 until the final seven minutes (plus stoppage time) when both teams scored goals.
Alex would score for Chelsea in the 83rd minute but the lead wouldn’t last long as Newcastle’s Steven Taylor equalized in stoppage time. Chelsea will be disappointed with the draw but do clinch 2nd place with the point and Arsenal’s loss to Aston Villa. Newcastle United are in 12th place and safe from relegation.
Both sides finish the EPL season next Sunday.
