Norwich v West Brom Preview

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson

“I think panic is to be avoided at all costs and at all times.”

“Panic doesn’t serve any purpose whatsoever.

“We live in an environment where panic is sometimes encouraged or generated from the outside and there’s nothing we can do about that.

“But, among ourselves, it’s very important, always, that you don’t panic and to make certain you’re constantly working to prepare and do things right and get things right.

“Then you have to believe that by doing things right the results will follow.

“That’s the only logical thing you can do.”

“The season has just started, everybody is excited and projections are made in relation to what has happened in the early stages.

“That is perfectly natural and it’s also desirable because that’s what keeps people talking and everyone coming to the matches, so there is no criticism implied.

“But it’s very important to realise that if we’re not careful we’re going to start changing things on the basis of early results, which may in actual fact work against us down the line.

“It’s about keeping that balance and equilibrium between what’s happening at the moment and putting things right, while, on the other hand, not losing sight of that 38th league game of the season.”

“Norwich are in a similar situation to us.”

“They have more points than we have but they are closer to the bottom than the top and will be anxious against a team like ourselves to get their first victory on the board.”

“Paul has done a very good job.”

“He was voted manager of the year in the Championship by his peers and he is in a fantastic place at the moment where he only knows victories, promotions and being top of the table.

“I’m certain he is prepared this year for a season where the top of the table is not of so much interest to him – but both his and his players’ confidence must be very high.

“I’m sure they’ll now be looking at another table within the Premier League and trying to get closer to the top of that to stay in the league.

“That will be his and Delia Smith’s goal and they must be happy with the way things have gone in the past three seasons.”

Norwich manager Paul Lambert

“The nature of the game is that you have to win, and we’ll be doing all we can to win.

“A point at Wigan was a decent start, then Stoke at home was disappointing when we conceded near the end, but we were with ten men for 30 minutes and up against a good side.

“We might have seen it through against Chelsea, we were in that game but the penalty decision turned it, but we played really, really well.

“It’s very early, but I have seen West Brom in the three games that they’ve played, and they’re a really good side.”

“He’s never let me down and has never let himself down, which is great. He’s a strong character and can handle the occasion, so he’ll be fine.

“This will be the biggest challenge of his fledgling career that’s for sure, but I don’t have a problem.”

“I thought Crofty was brilliant the other night, and I’m delighted for the three of them.

“They’re doing really well, which is great, and Moro [Steve Morison] getting a goal will give his confidence a boost, even though he doesn’t need it.

“Simeon seems to be one of the lads that always seems to get a goal.

“Sometimes if you’re an international player and you’re coming from a league below you can go there with a bit of trepidation, but now they can go there having been in the Premier League for a few games and I’m pretty sure their confidence will be sky high.”
