Aston Villa v Manchester City Preview

Man City manager Roberto Mancini

‘They lost their last game against Newcastle and so we will need to play a good game if we want to win against Aston Villa.

‘When the game starts their supporters will support their team, always.’

‘I know what my job is but I am human. Sometimes I can make mistakes, like the referee, like the players.

‘Everyone can make a mistake sometimes. It is important the players understand this and they put everything on the pitch.

‘When you think that you have made some mistakes, after you prepare better.

‘For us it was really important to beat Fulham with a clean sheet.

‘But I think every game from now until the end will be very difficult.

‘Sometimes you play against top clubs, sometimes you play against teams playing for relegation, so for this reason I think it will be very hard.

‘We know the season is long and we have another 14 games, every game is difficult.’

Aston Villa manager Alex McCleish

“Manchester City have got every bit of a chance of winning the title as Manchester United.

“United’s people probably feel that their experience may tell but City are supremely gifted.

“They move it about really well. But not only are little guys like Silva exceptional on the ball they get through a lot of graft as well.

“That is the big part of the team that Mancini has created. He has got the creative players to graft and work.

“I saw the Everton game and even though they lost, they’ve got players back in their own half ready to counter-attack with speed and style.

“They have a great work ethic as well as tremendous skill.”

“My players have to remember the last time they played one of the elite teams at Villa Park they may have lost but they were applauded off the pitch.

“If we play rubbish and win I’ll be delighted but at the same time they have to remember why they have got applause that night.

“It was because they gave total commitment and never let up from start to finish.

“Our lads will raise their games against Manchester City. I have no doubt. They have had a few kicks in the teeth over the past few weeks.

“But we have done a lot of video work with the lads and they are knuckling down to not only get shut-outs but also to win football games.

“They are a proud bunch and I trust them to do the business.”
