CONCACAF Champions League – Match Recaps – 22 August 2012
The Houston Dynamo won at FAS, Caledonia were held by Marathon, and UANL earned a draw at Alajuelense in the CONCACAF Champions League on August 22, 2012.
CD FAS 1-3 Houston Dynamo
The Dynamo opened the CCL campaign with a strong victory Estadio Cuscatlan. Brian Ching started things off with a header from close range followed by 19th minute Cam Weaver header to make it 0-2. The Dynamo were clearly the better side during the match and are in great position to win Group 3.
Both teams scored goals in the second half as Houston’s lead was never in serious trouble. FAS have lost both of their Group Stage matches and more than likely do not have a chance to win Group 3.

Caledonia AIA 0-0 Marathon
Both teams earned their first point in the Group Stage in a scoreless draw. It was a decent result for Marathon who are expected to challenge the Seattle Sounders for the top spot. Caledonia and Marathon will both travel to Seattle before these two sides meet again in Honduras.
Alajuelense 2-2 UANL
UANL had a second half lead but Alajuelense scored a last minute goal to salvage a draw. The home side took the lead on a great strike from Diego Calvo but UANL’s Alonso Zamora equalized in the 40th minute.
The Mexican side continued the momentum by grabbing a 2-1 with a 57th minute Manuel Viniegra Garcia goal. Alajuelense responded well with decent chances and eventually a Luis Miguel Valle goal. Valle scored with a fantastic curling shot in the final minute of regular time.
The draw was absolutely crucial for Alajuelense but UANL still lead Group 6 with four points. Real Esteli, the other team in the group, will host UANL and Alajuelense in the next set of matches. These two sides will not meet again until the final round of matches.
