Other results on Saturday were Eintracht Frankfurt winning at Bayer Leverkusen, Fortuna Dusseldorf winning at Augsburg, and Freiburg were held to a draw by Mainz.
Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 TSG Hoffenheim
Monchengladbach started the season off on a winning note with a match winner from Juan Arango in the 78th minute. It was a great free kick curled into the upper right corner.

Newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf won the opening round thanks to a Dani Schahin brace. The first goal was a great strike just under the cross bar from outside the box and the second was from close range after a good first touch.

Hanno Balitsch had the lone goal of the match as Nuremberg won at the Volksparkstadion. Balitsch tapped in the rebound after Per Nilsson’s header hit off the crossbar.

Freiburg took an early second half lead but Mainz would salvage a draw with a Andreas Ivanschitz penalty kick.
