Major League Soccer – Match Recaps – 5 August 2012
The Seattle Sounders thrashed the LA Galaxy at home and Portland needed a late goal to salvage a draw against FC Dallas in Major League Soccer on August 5, 2012.
Portland Timbers 1-1 FC Dallas
The Timbers snapped their five match losing streak in league play behind a 79th minute Jack Jewsbury goal. Dallas had a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute with a Scott Sealy goal but only moments later Zach Loyd was sent off for a second yellow card. The equalizer from Jewsbury was a great volley following a cross punched away by goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.
| 51′ | 0 – 1 | Scott Sealy | |
| 52′ | Zach Loyd (red card) | ||
| 79′ | Jack Jewsbury | 1 – 1 |
Seattle Sounders 4-0 Los Angeles Galaxy
The Galaxy suffered their worse loss of the season (in MLS) as Seattle moved within seven points of the Western Conference leaders (San Jose). EJ started things off for Seattle with a header to make it 1-0, Fredy Montero doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, Alex Caskey made it 3-0 in the 60th minute, and Andy Rose capped the scoring in the 87th minute.
It’s a very disappointing result for the Galaxy who were starting to climb up the Western Conference and will need a fantastic finish to have any hope of finishing on top in the Western Conference. Both teams are currently in the playoffs by a comfortable margin.

| 52′ | Fredy Montero | 2 – 0 | |
| 60′ | Alex Caskey | 3 – 0 | |
