Scottish Premier League – Match Recaps – 4 August 2012
Celtic edged Aberdeen, Hearts blanked St Johnstone, and three other matches ended in draws in the Scottish Premier League on August 4, 2012.
Celtic 1-0 Aberdeen
The defending SPL champions started the season on a high note with a victory at Celtic Park. The lone goal of the match, scored by Kris Commons, was a bit lucky as it fumbled by the goalkeeper and should have been saved. Celtic are huge favorites to win the league this season as Rangers are not in the SPL this season.
| 79′ | Kris Commons | 1 – 0 |
Hearts 2-0 St Johnstone
Hearts are top of the SPL table with a solid win at home over Johnstone. After taking a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick, the home side took advantage of a red card by extending their lead in the 82nd minute.
| 29′ | John Sutton (pen) | 1 – 0 | |
| 36′ | Gregory Tade (red card) | ||
| 82′ | David Templeton | 2 – 0 |
Kilmarnock 0-0 Dundee FC
A disappointing draw for Kilmarnock who had 8 shots on goal but couldn’t find the back of the net. Kilmarnock should be in contention for a top half finish and Europa League spot this season.
Ross County 0-0 Motherwell
Neither team created too many clear cut chances as there were three shots on goal combined (12 overall). Motherwell will now turn their focus towards the second leg in UEFA Champions League qualifying (3rd round) where they are down 2-0 to Panathinaikos.
St Mirren 2-2 Inverness
St Mirren had an early lead but it was Inverness to had goals in the 69th and 76th minute to lead 2-1 heading into stoppage time. The home side scored stoppage time goal to level the match but also received a red card just before the final whistle.
