Spanish Primera Division – Season Predictions – 2012/13
The 2012-13 Spanish Primera Division (La Liga) season is set to start on August 18, 2012 with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona the favorites. Real Madrid won the title last season with a record setting 100 points and remarkable +89 goal difference.
So, who will win the title this season and which clubs will be relegated? Below are my predictions for the upcoming season.
Who wins the title?
It’s clear that the title race is between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Real Madrid have the momentum from last season and have kept all their key players from last season. Barcelona have a new manager in Tito Vilanova who was an assistant manager since 2008.
The new manager will likely have some growing pains which gives an advantage to Real Madrid. The Los Blancos should win a record 33rd La Liga title. It might not be a nine point cushion (like last season) as Barcelona are still a fantastic team with Lionel Messi.
Who will be relegated?
The three promoted sides were Deportivo La Coruna, Celta de Vigo, and Real Valladolid. The teams who struggled last season but survived were Granada, Zaragoza, and Rayo Vallecano.
It’s always difficult to predict who will be relegated but I’m going to say its Valladolid, Celta de Vigo, and Zaragoza. I will freely admit that I don’t have a lot of confidence in this prediction and it could easily be three other teams relegated.
