Colombia thrashed Uruguay, Ecuador edged Bolivia, Argentina beat Paraguay, and Peru beat Venezuela CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying on September 7, 2012.

Colombia 4-0 Uruguay

Teofilo Gutierrez had a brace to lead Colombia to a dominating home victory. Falcao and Camilo Zuniga provided the goals as Colombia led for almost the entire match.

The win puts Colombia one point behind fourth place Uruguay and three points off the top spot (Argentina). Colombia are looking to qualify for their first World Cup since 1998.

Ecuador 1-0 Bolivia

The home side kept their 2014 World Cup hopes in great shape with a narrow in. Felipe Caicedo provided the lone goal with a successful penalty kick in the 71st minute.

The 1-0 win is Ecuador’s second straight in qualifying and fourth overall in six matches. Bolivia have struggled in qualifying with only one victory and five losses through seven matches.

Argentina 3-1 Paraguay

Argentina moved top of the qualification table with a comfortable win behind goals from Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain, and Lionel Messi. Paraguay did level the match with a 17th minute Jonathan Fabbro penalty kick but Argentina responded with two unanswered goals.

Paraguay are last in the table but still have plenty of matches remaining while Argentina have won their last three World Cup qualifying matches.

Peru 2-1 Venezuela

Venezuela couldn’t hold onto a first half lead as Peru rallied with a Jefferson Farfan second half brace. The visitors couldn’t respond to Farfan’s two goals and were down a man for the final 24 minutes because of a Gabriel Cichero red card.

Both teams are in the bottom half of the table and several points off the last automatic qualifying spot.
