Germany defeated Brazil 3-2 in an international friendly on Wednesday, August 10, 2011.

Germany 3-2 Brazil Recap

Germany scored three second half goals to edge Brazil in a friendly match.

Neither team scored in the first half but there would be five in the second half. Germany took a 2-0 lead with a 61st minute penalty by Bastian Schweinsteiger and 67th minute Mario Gotze. Robinho cut the lead in half for Brazil with a 72nd minute penalty but Germany extended their lead with an 80th minute Andre Schurrle goal.

Brazil would once again get back within one goal with a 90th minute Neymar but the match ended a few moments later.

Germany will return to UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying next month while Brazil play several friendlies in the upcoming months.

Brazil 0-0 (0-2) Paraguay Recap

Paraguay upset the defending champions as they moved into the Copa America semifinals.

Brazil were the heavy favorites but the match was scoreless after 90 minutes and the additional 30 of extra time. In the penalty shoot-out, Brazil would struggle and fail to convert their first four chances. Paraguay would convert their second and fourth kicks to clinch the win and move onto the next round.

It’s a bad result for Brazil but not too surprising as they are focusing primarily on the 2014 World Cup (which they host). Paraguay will play in the semifinals July 20 against either Peru or Venezuela.

Brazil broke out of their struggles in the Copa America with a strong 4-2 win over Ecuador.

The team was led by two goals each from Pato and Neymar while Ecuador’s two goals were scored by Felipe Caicedo. The win put Brazil on top of Group B and into the quarterfinals. Ecuador finish the tournament with one point.

Brazil will now face Paraguay in the next round which is a re-match from the Group Stage (2-2 draw).

Brazil 2-2 Paraguay Recap

The defending champions had to score a late second half goal to salvage a 2-2 draw against Paraguay.

Brazil would take the lead with a 38th minute Jadson goal but Paraguay took the lead with goals from Roque Santa Cruz (54th minute), and Nelson Haedo Valdez (66th minute). Brazil would equalize just before the final whistle with an 89th minute Fred goal.

Along with Argentina (other favorites heading into tournament), Brazil has only been able to earn draws in their first two matches and in danger of not making the knockout stage. Paraguay also have earned draws in both matches.

Both teams finish up the Group Stage on Wednesday.
